Set against the backdrop of the 1912 miners strike in Nottinghamshire, The Daughter-in-Law sees Luther and his new wife Minnie struggle to warm to married life. After finding out her husband of just seven weeks has got another girl pregnant, Minnie has a fight on her hands, not only to keep Luther from her rival but more importantly from his overbearing mother.
