The Filleting Machine archiveThe Filling Machine was first performed in 1974 by Live Theatre Company at the Central Club in North Shields. Set on the Ridges Estate in North Shields, this gritty and true to life play concerns a family who depend largely for their livelihood upon the unpredictable fortunes of the local fishing industry. Ma has ambitions for her children seeing education and steady work as the escape route to a better life. Da, however, convinced that cash in the hand is what really counts urges his son Davey to follow him in working as a casual filleting fish on the quays.
