Production details
Poet Alceste is disgusted with French society and life at court. Powdered fops gossip in code and be-jewelled coquettes whisper behind fans wherever he looks. He therefore launches into a one-man crusade against fakery, forked-tongues and frippery. The trouble is the biggest culprit of all may well be Célimène, the woman he loves. As Alceste dreams of a pas de deux, are the only deux of Célimène her faces? And in this rarefied world will his revolution just prove revolting?
