1565: the Christian Knights of St John protect Malta from the Turkish onslaught. In the chaos of war, dogmatic leadership falls prey to religious ecstasy, purity is fouled by desire, and the idle rich play games of debauched manipulation in a brutally poetic exploration of extremity. Concussion present a premiere that explores adult themes of duty, religion, power, and sexual relationships through stylised dialogue that fragments naturalism so as to force the audience back to the debates. Using the siege as a backdrop, the focus is on the escalation of extreme behaviour dictated by the pragmatism of what has to be done to guarantee survival. Civilisation is crushed in successive scenes of overwhelming atrocities that are not for the faint-hearted.
