The Way of the World archiveThe Way of the World" is a comedy of elegance, class, manners and deception, set in a fashionable London society that really has money and sex at the heart of its concerns. Mirabell and Millamant love each other, but they endlessly deceive other people, and each other, in order to achieve that love. 310 years after it first premiered at Lincoln’s Inn Fields The Way of the World is back in a new slick, sexy, hedonistic 1980s setting. From Flashdances to furious flirting this ‘bitesized’ version of the classic Restoration comedy promises... Maverick, Maxwell and mullets, The Pretenders, with denim, aviators and leg-warmers; Come on Eileen!... take this chance to pogo back into this deliciously, decadent decade and watch the chaos that ensures as men and women lie, cheat and fall in love. Most Excellent. The play follows the lovers Mirabell and Millamant. In order for the two to get married and receive Millamant's full dowry, Mirabell must receive the blessing of Millamant's aunt, Lady Wishfort. However, her hatred of Mirabell means she is opposed to it and wants her nephew, Sir Wilful, to marry Millamant. As Mirabell endeavours to trick Lady Wishfort and win Millamant, double crossing, mistaken identities and humour arises. Running time: 45mins
