Umrao - The Noble Courtesan archiveAn English language adaptation of the 1905 Urdu novel Umrao Jaan Ada by Mirza Hadi Ruswa. Set during the Mughal period, a young girl is kidnapped and sold to a Courtesan house to be trained in the traditional art forms of Sufi (poetry), Thumri (singing) and Kathak (dance) in order to entertain the Mughal Court. A traditional story of Lucknowi culture with dance and live music set to traditional Urdu poetry.
