Wild As the White Waves archiveWhat Byron was to 19th Century England, Edna St Vincent Millay was to 20th Century America - the embodiment of romance and passion. Coming from a background of enlightened poverty in New England, she won a scholarship to Vassar and was part of the Greenwich Village set in the 1920s. She was politically active in the fields of Women's and Human Rights and openly bisexual. Her early poetry celebrated women's sexuality with a new freedom that brought her fame and notoriety. This is the story of a remarkable woman who can still speak to us, who is by turns funny, moving and ultimately inspiring.
