An exciting comical-musical murder-mystery. The scene is Chicago in the early 1940s. When a senior policeman is found murdered in Buddy's Bar, the bartender wants his own man on the case rather than risk losing his tavern to a lengthy police investigation. He turns to his best customer, a down-on-his-luck Blues singer by the name of Randolph Wolfcastle.
