You Might as Well Live: An Evening with Dorothy Parker

You Might as Well Live: An Evening with Dorothy ParkerT1234333928
Accompanied on stage by the Steve Salfield Jazz Trio, playing the music of the 1920s and 30s, David Frederickson's play features the words, wisdom and wisecracks of one of America's foremost jazz age writers. Dorothy Parker's journalism was characterised by rapier wit and per poems and short stories by melancholy and aching vulnerability. Her pen frequently upset the literary establishment and provided an acerbic commentary on life in inter-war America. She was active also in cultural politics, setting up the Hollywood anti-Nazi League and the Screenwriters' Guild. Of course, she ended up on Senator McCathy's blacklist which, she said, severely curtailed her earning power. But it didn't stop her telling it like it was!
