Mavis Cheek's first novel Pause Between Acts won the She/John Menzies Fist Novel Prize. She has since written 7 novels and her latest Mrs Fytton's Country Life will be published by Faber and Faber in November. Alan Hollinghurst first found recognition for his novel The Swimming-Pool Library in the 80s. His second novel, The Folding Star, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and his latest novel The Spell was published in June this year.
