One of the headlining acts to be performing at Spotlight will be contemporary dance company Sakoba Dance Theatre. The elaborate entertainers strive to produce innovative and original choreography that combines many dance styles and influences from around the world, while staying true to their African cultural traditions. Other headline acts include: The Nizami Brothers - uplifting and rhythmic Qawwali music in the unblemished traditions associated with the shrine of Nizammudin Auliya; Shamshad Khan - a performance poet who uses poetic imagery with cinematic speed, beautiful and unsettling; Xiaoshan Wang - a Durham-based Mezzo soprano who will be showcasing a special composition for her Spotlight performance; Anurekha Ghosh & Company - They will be performing
Ganges to Nile, Kathak and traditional African dance that merge like two rivers to explore the eternal spiritual essence of India and Africa; Ann s Culture Club - a performance of vibrant Chinese Opera; and the Thai Music Circle - a selection of captivating music from the Orient.
