Under 11s Showcase

Following last year s successful showcase of plays written by 10 and 11 year-olds, Soho Theatre presents another weekend of plays by the Under 11s on Saturday 14 July and Sunday 15 July at 3pm. Earlier this year, Jonathan Lloyd, Associate Director of Soho Theatre, ran playwriting workshops in ten Westminster schools. The first set of workshops focused on characterisation and students wrote a scene for two characters, which were then acted out by professional actors. The second workshop focused on structure and storytelling and guided the students through writing a short play during the workshop, all of which were again acted out by actors. Students were then invited to enter a playwriting competition run by Soho Theatre. 170 plays were submitted and a judging panel chose twenty of the best plays for the showcase. All twenty plays will be given a professional production in the Soho Theatre auditorium. Among the plays to be performed are: Return of the Werecat; The Poisonous Disco; Valentine's Day Disaster; Inside a Tomato and David Beckham's Birthday Party.
