Warren Mitchell stars as Brahms, the great composer with a disastrous love life. Tony Palmer's wonderful film focuses on his disastrous attempts at romance, particularly his intense but unrequited passion to Clara Schumann (widow of the famous composer Robert Schumann), to whom he wrote over 4000 letters.
