Charles Darwin sailed round the world on the Beagle, shot some finches on the Galapagos Islands and wrote a book about evolution that still annoys people today. Darwin was also a family man who loved his children dearly, spent years studying earthworms and barnacles, and came up with what has been called the best idea that anyone ever had. Adam Hart-Davies will try to paint a true picture of Darwin the man and the naturalist, and set him in his scientific and historical context.
