With his imposing stature, distinctive booming voice and trademark beard, Brian Blessed is one of the country's best known and highly respected actors. A distinguished and varied career has encompassed all forms of media as well as stage roles. He has appeared in a number of Shakespearean productions on both stage and screen, including four of the five Shakespeare films directed by Kenneth Branagh. A versatile actor, Blessed has also starred in Andrew Lloyd Webber's production of Cats and originated the role of Baron Bombhurst for the stage musical version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. In film he has co-starred with Katherine Hepburn and starred in George Lucas' Star Wars series. He has written five books and has a great love for mountaineering which has resulted in three expeditions to Mount Everest and a trek to the North Pole.
