The British armed forces have fought five wars since 1997 and are currently used to enforce peace in places which threaten no vital interest of the UK. Who does the UK have a responsibility to protect? The UK military has a world reputation for peace-keeping: what does this say about Britain's place in a world which is shifting into a new mode? What should be the role of the UK military in contemporary politics?
