Zygmunt Bauman: War, Terror and the City
T0
Cities are under attack. As the Western world battens down the hatches for its 'war on terror', its cities look uniquely beleaguered, besieged and vulnerable. Elsewhere in the world, cities have become battlegrounds in wars that deliberately threaten their survival. Beyond all this deeper changes are taking place which put in question all the familiar patterns of urban, social and even human life. A distinguished panel thinks across disciplines to interrogate the new realities. Speakers: Zygmunt Bauman, sociologist and author; Eduardo Mendieta, Associate Professor of Philosophy, State University of New York; Steven Graham, Professor in Human Geography at Durham University. Chair: Madeleine Bunting, columnist, Guardian
