Robeson Re-Explored
Sir Willard White explores the repertoire and life story of Paul Robeson, one of the major figures who raised awareness of equality and human rights in the mid-twentieth century, in a moving story. This new show features Neal Thornton who will lead a group of outstanding musicians including Guy Barker on trumpet and augmented by the Pavão String Quartet. Together they will bring orchestral textures to tailor-made arrangements of more popular songs from the Paul Robeson songbook. The programme includes Negro spirituals, British folk song, classic early jazz songs and the concert concludes with a rendition of 'Ol Man River'. With a captivating voice and wonderful stage presence, Willard White takes on the mantle of the legendary Paul Robeson with the quality of a master craftsman.
