Voices of Partition explores the tragic events surrounding, and the legacy of the partition of British India in 1947. A principle aim of the theatre debates has been to foster a spirit of reconciliation and healing between British Panjabi people of Hindu, Muslim, Christian and Sikh backgrounds and all other communities who have suffered the consequences of partitions. The culmination of the Sangat series of events, this special evening celebrates the launch of Menna Elfyn’s Welsh translation of Mazhar Tirmazi’s play ‘A Lifetime on Tiptoes’. The tri-lingual publication in Panjabi, Welsh and English is a first for the Drama Association of Wales. The evening features readings by Menna Elfyn and Mazhar Tirmazi and live music by Kuljit Bhamra. A pioneer of the Bhangra phenomenon, Bhamra combines traditional Indian rhythms with western instruments to transform Panjabi music into a new sound. The evening is chaired by Chapter’s departing director Janek Alexander.
