A Date with Carmen archiveA quintessentially European story, Carmen is inspired by a Russian poem, written in French as a novella about a Spanish gypsy living across national borders, and adapted to become one of the world's most performed operas which was first produced in London. Our starting point was a newly commissioned adaptation of Merimee's novella by Saviana Stanescu and Kit Hesketh-Harvey. Each partner was then invited to re-imagine the story engaging through their expert art form and themes pertinent to them. This has given us a rich and original programme of startlingly different interpretations. A Date with Carmen is the showcase of five new multilingual interpretations of the Carmen story, encompassing radio, dance, theatre and performance art. The result of an ongoing project bringing together companies from France, Georgia, Romania and the UK
