An accomplished singer, musician and composer. Originating from traditional Algerian music, Rai is run and danceable, featuring driving percussion and emotive lyrics. Rai is the most popular music in North Africa and appreciation is growing in Europe, where Abdelkader Saadoun and his band are leading exponents of the style. Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday early evening Al fresco gigs on the band stage in Theatre Square: ten weeks of upbeat rhythms, smooth grooves and funky fusions from world-ranking contemporary musicians.
