With its distinguished international profile, the Edinburgh Quartet is Scotland's premier string quartet. Committed to nurturing talent and championing new music, the Quartet is resident at Edinburgh Napier University and The University of Aberdeen, and also collaborates with Glasgow and Edinburgh Universities. In this, the 50th anniversary year of the Edinburgh Quartet, the ensemble is marking the 200th anniversary of Robert Schumann's birth. This concert will include the first of Schumann's three quartets in A minor, composed in 1842. The other pieces will be Borodin's famous second Quartet in D major -a work full of beautiful melodic writing and the quartet in C major opus 74 no1 by Franz Joseph Haydn ,often known as 'the Father of the String Quartet'.
