Kodo Drummers - Ekkyo: Trans-Border archiveJapanese drumming spectacular. Kodo means both 'heartbeat' and 'children of the drum'. Based in their own village on Sado Island, Kodo seek to preserve the centuries-old ritual of the traditional Japanese taiko, whilst also encouraging artistic exchange and collaboration. Constantly absorbing new influences into their own musical heritage, Kodo's performances are a sublime devotional experience maintaining the very spirit of the drum. Kodo returns direct from Sado Island, with a performance never seen outside Japan. Ekkyo: Trans-border features premier dancer, Chieko Kojima, alongside fresh dance, vocal and drum compositions. Lavish costumes, huge drums, and Kodo's legendary precision and power deliver an exotic synthesis that explores new territories, and the boundaries between. Part of JAPAN-UK 150, celebrating 150 years of friendship between Japan and the United Kingdom.
