Folk music is often referred to as the people’s music but it is sometimes perceived to belong to some people more than others. The Imagined Village takes the English songbook and opens it wide, inviting everyone to take up the music. In the last few years there has been an astonishing resurgence of interest in folk music coinciding with a new generation examining what it means to be English, through books such as Billy Bragg’s The Progressive Patriot.
