Details
Aomori is an area of Japan at the northernmost tip of Honshu Island, with short summers and long snowy winters. Forests of blue-green, soft linear mountains and seas of a deep navy blue enliven feelings with colour in autumn. In winter, repetitive silent snowfall arrives, transforming the landscape; the heartbeat slows down, the body is overwhelmed by a desire to rest, to lay horizontally in this blanket of white. The sounds, songs and dances of Tsugaru personify these landscapes. How do an environment, place and people inspire an artist’s work? This winter, choreographer Sioned Huws continued a series of residencies at Aomori Contemporary Art Centre, collaborating with a company of artists.
