Pianist. There is no other pianist quite like Gabriela Montero. The Venezuelan musician has not only won worldwide acclaim for her performances and recordings, but also for her ability to improvise. As part of Southbank Centre's Women of the World festival, Montero spotlights a remarkable female composer - Clara Schumann, wife of Robert Schumann. Clara was a child prodigy and gifted composer who, most unusually for a woman in the mid 19th century, combined an international performing career with a devoted marriage and raising a family of seven children. Montero performs Clara's highly expressive Sonata in G minor alongside Robert's Fantasy in C major, a masterpiece inspired by his passion for her. The rest of the concert is a feast of Montero's improvisation - a rare treat for all music-lovers.
