Gilgamesh archiveA magical and mythological tale. Part man and part god, tyrannical ruler Gilgamesh sets out on a hazardous quest for the Spring of Eternal Youth. Tragedy awaits, and it is in his acceptance of his own mortality that Gilgamesh achieves true divinity. This radical reinterpretation of Gilgamesh, the oldest story in the world, is high-energy, brutal and multi-layered theatre. Three actors in a seven metre-long dirt pit wrestle and roll through four tonnes of earth. Using action figures and Matchbox toy tanks, they retell the 5000 year-old story of tyrannical ruler Gilgamesh and his destructive friend Enkidu. It's a richly imaginative world of gods, kings, rappers and wrestlers, conjured up through a riotous form of child's play. Epic theatre, played out on a tiny scale, with a thrash metal soundtrack. Supported by the Australia Council for the Arts, Arts Victoria and Arts Projects Australia. Running time 80mins/no interval
