Tiger Lillies - Edgar Allan Poe's Haunted Palace archiveOne of the most extraordinary acts you're ever likely to see. Whatever reaction they provoke, you can't ignore the Tiger Lillies. They fuse cabaret (in the true sense), vaudeville, music-hall and street theatre in a style that is totally spell-binding, always thought-provoking , often hilarious, and in every sense unique. Cult musical trio The Tiger Lillies present the UK premiere of Edgar Allen Poe's Haunted Palace, a musical plunging into the dark and sinister world of the poet. Loosely based on Poe's stories and poems, equally inspired by his tumultuous and tragic life, this concert performance retains the author's own black sense of humour while navigating the inner paths of his soul. In a haunted palace, a young poet meets the devilish Raven, who supplies him with particularly black ink, which guarantees glory and honour. The poet writes frantically and soon runs out of ink. Desperate for more ink, he careens through the many corridors and halls of the palace. In each room, he finds a story, a poem, or a page of Poe's imagination, and everywhere there are dying maidens. The international creative team behind this darkly comic musical includes French-American director Paul Golub, American video designer Mark Holthusen and Swedish playwright Peder Bjurman. The theatrical score and all songs are new compositions by Martyn Jacques, lead singer of The Tiger Lillies.
