Bach Organ Recital

Bach Day moves on to the Royal Albert Hall for its third concert, as David Briggs, Organist Emeritus at Gloucester Cathedral, mixes solo organ works -including the great C minor Passacaglia and Fugue - with arrangements of pieces better known in their original guise. These include the cantata movement 'Sheep may safely graze', popularised by Myra Hess in her piano version, and Briggs's own arrangement of the best known of Bach's orchestral suites, containing the popular 'Air on the G String'. A number of the works in this early-evening organ recital go on to receive the orchestral treatment in tonight's Bach Day climax. Finish time: approx. 18:00 Broadcast live on BBC Radio 3
