Counting to One Hundred/One Flute Note - T1638409194

Over the past ten years, the two artists have built a body of work that mixes the formality of music composition with a radical approach to performance. Counting To One Hundred and One Flute Note continue their explorations of the structure of John Cage's Lecture On Nothing. Jonathan Burrows is one of the UK's leading choreographers, starting his career as a soloist with The Royal Ballet in London but forming the Jonathan Burrows Group in 1988 to present his own work and perform it around the world. Burrows and long-time collaborator, the Italian composer Matteo Fargion, have received awards and acclaim across the world including the 2003?2004 New York Dance and Performance Bessie Awards for Both Sitting Duet.

Cheap Lecture/The Cow Piece - T921390855

UK Premiere. Cheap Lecture is a rhythmic spoken performance set to music. In a rant about empty hands, audience, time, repetition and dancing, Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fargion reflect upon and continue the journey begun in their earlier work. Veering from the philosophical to the humorous and back again, the piece gently reveals how the two artists work while drawing us into ever more unexpected digressions. It is accompanied by The Cow Piece, a chaotic meditation upon dance, music and mortality. Cheap Lecture was selected for the 2009 ‘best of the year’ at the Het Theaterfestival in Brussels.
