with Tredegar Town Band and the Rambert Orchestra
Live on the Sadler's Wells stage, the full ranks of Tredegar Town Band, 2013 British Open Champions, propel Rambert's wonderful dancers in Dark Arteries, the world's first brass band dance work. Composer Gavin Higgins (who wrote the opening piece for 2014's Last Night of the Proms) and Rambert Artistic Director Mark Baldwin have created a work that is powerful and uplifting, celebrating how brass band music endures as the legacy of the communities which mined the coalfields - the 'dark arteries' - of Britain. It is a dance which draws you into its emotional heart, even as the sound lifts the hairs on the back of your neck, then raises the roof. Dark Arteries forms the centrepiece of a new programme from Britain's national dance company, which also includes the latest work from Alexander Whitley - "his cutting-edge contemporary choreography has made him one of the rising stars of Britain's dance scene" (GQ) - and a revival of celebrated US choreographer Lucinda Childs' minimalist masterpiece Four Elements: "a classic by any standards" (The Times).
