T01930175631A feast of contemporary opera, concerts and theatre to brighten up your summer; building on the long-term success of their annual opera season, the Almeida Theatre’s new Summer Festival will also incorporate elements of their critically acclaimed theatre programme. Opening on the 16th July, the festival will present the European premiere of Adam Rapp’s astonishing Nocturne, which has received vast critical acclaim in the United States. Opening with the shattering line 'Fifteen years ago I killed my sister', Nocturne is a beautifully written, devastating tale, of how a tragic accident changes the course of one young man’s life. Peter MacDonald, whose recent credits include Glengarry Glen Ross at the Apollo Theatre and Aristocrats at the National Theatre, performs this one-man play. Music accompanying the monologue has been composed by Philip Neil Martin, whose many accolades include Music Creator in Residence at London College of Fashion. Almeida Summer Festival will also host a week-long residency from 28th July - 2nd August by leading British-African theatre company Tiata Fahodzi for their festival of new writing Tiata Delights. Now in its 4th year, Tiata Delights is a respected platform for emerging and established writers - Oxford Street, one of last year’s showcased plays, is a current Royal Court production and this year’s festival will open with the latest piece of writing by Olivier-Award winner Bola Agbaje | |
