The Picture of Dorian Gray archiveA daring musical adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Gray transports Oscar Wilde's masterpiece into our own celebrity-obsessed, gossip-driven times - complete with shallow pop stars, sex-crazed artists and sleazy journalists. The Picture of Dorian Gray tells the story of one man's fall from grace. From a position of great fame - on the cover of every gossip magazine - Dorian descends rapidly into a world of drug and sex-fuelled infamy. All those he befriends on his ill-fated journey, artists, women and lovers, are doomed to be dragged down with him. Supported by Unity Theatre Trust. Co-produced with Kangaroo Court Theatre Company, this new adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Gray updates the classic novella, incorporating new technology and an original musical score. One of the songs, entitled Take Me Baby, is a pastiche of a Britney Spears song. It is performed by a modern-day Sybil Vane who has been transformed in Kangaroo Court’s adaptation into a vacant pop-star. This is the first collaboration between Kangaroo Court - acclaimed new writing company behind Lady Chatterley’s Lover (Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Bush Hall, London in 2006) - and the resurgent Tabard Theatre in West London. The play has been written by a team of 18 - 30 year old writers under the supervision of Kangaroo Court’s Artistic Director Neil McCurley.
