Soliloquies - Firelines archiveHis wife's funeral leads Henry, an east end Londoner, to reminisce about his days as a fireman during the Second World War. A two-hander, Soliloquies is a dramatic rendering of the emotional conflicts, which are the consequences of the compromises, sacrifices, and betrayals that occur in times of war. When Henry's daughter Fay attempts to bridge the distance between generations, dark pasts are set alight. This is the playwright's stage debut, although the play received a rehearsed reading and tryout performance for one night only in June 2001 as part of the Blue Elephant's new wirting programme 'Hijack'. Rickman, 76, joined the army at 18, serving in South East Asia Command. He became interested in military history and uniforms which led to work on costumes and equipment for films and TV productions including 'A Man For All Seasons', 'The Charge of the Light Brigade', 'Elizabeth R' and 'Dr Who'. Mark has published short stories in the UK and around the world and has taught creative writing. He lives in Streatham.
