Benedict Allen is one of Britain’s most prominent explorers, travelling alone using the survival skills he has learned from remote tribal people. If Benedict Allen was a cat, he’d have used up six of his nine lives by now: at the age of 23 he was attacked by gold miners in the Amazon and, fleeing through the forest, was forced to eat his own dog to survive; two years later he underwent a harrowing initiation ceremony in New Guinea; since then he has been shot at, poisoned and, more recently, he almost died when he was separated from his dog team in Siberia in what turned out to be the worst winter in living memory. His belief in exploring wildernesses without modern back-up systems like satellite phone or GPS navigation makes his solo expeditions particularly precarious. Likewise, he usually travels without camera crew, making him the only TV adventurer to truly convey the genuine experience of danger and isolation in the field. Arguably, he has the most dangerous job seen on television! As well as numerous TV series for the BBC, Benedict Allen has also written nine books, including two best sellers, and he will be selling and signing his books on the evening.
