Milton’s works were publicly burned by Royalists, and he was arrested and imprisoned for his advocacy of free speech, civil liberties and the need for a democratic civil society. Starting from Milton’s birthday on Tuesday 9 December, writers, actors and public figures congregate to perform his masterpiece. | |
