Oh yes, that's the sort of ghost story that I love! A bit of a modern Priestley with added shocks, surrprises and twists. Don't worry, there are no spoilers here as requested at the end of the show - we mustn't ruin it for those yet to enjoy this great night out!
Essentially a four hander set over the course of one evening and night, this a supernatual thriller which debates the existence of spirits in general and ghosts in particular. Ben (Joe Absolom) returns home from a business trip to find his wife Laren (Charlene Boyd) has been experiencing strange events, always at 2:22 in the morning, that seem to centre on their new baby. Ben's old friend Jenny (Louisa Lytton) and her new man (Nathaniel Curtis) have come around for the evening and the talk turns to Lauren's experiences and whether they constitute a "haunting". As the evening progresses and more gets drunk, the debate turns more heated and it is decided that they should all be there at 2:22 to witness the events.
Oh, this is a clever production. Plenty of shock to make the audience jump (even scream!) and an ending that caused genuine gasps. Next morning I, and probably most of the audience, are still running parts of the play through our heads working them out. Excellent - if you love a ghost story I urge you to go see this one!
This is the last venue on the 2023 tour but the show continues in 2024 with a change of cast.
