The Taming of the Shrew archiveTwo wealthy sisters in Padua must be married off. The modest, demure Bianca has no shortage of suitors, but who on earth will take the wild, ungovernable, ?shrewish' Katherina? Perhaps the gold-digging Petruchio, as maddeningly strong willed and perverse as Katherina herself, will be equal to the task of bullying her to the altar. Shakespeare's outrageous comedy introduces one of the theatre's great screwball double-acts, a couple hellbent on confusing and outwitting each other right up to its controversial conclusion.

An exhilarating retelling of Shakespeares's dark comedy, where social absurdities are turned on their head, to glorious comic effect. In this version, the men are to be tamed and the women do the taming... As part of a month long festival at the Arts investigating evolving relations between minority groups and the theatre - with a focus on gender, race and disability - this unique production sees the main characters switch sex, in a world where the women hold the power and the men are 'advantageously wed'. A hilariously disorienting exploration that breathes new life into to this darkest of Shakespearean comedies.

Welcome to Padua, Texas, where men are men and cattle are nervous... When Petruchio rides into town seeking fortune and a wife, he sets his sights on beautiful, ferocious Kate. He’ll do anything to tame her and get a ring on her finger. But the wedding’s a joke and the marriage a farce. Who wins in this barn-storming comedy of brawling lovers? Queen’s Artistic Director Bob Carlton brings alive the romance and excitement of the Wild West in this gun-blazing comedy, cramming it with rollicking country melodies such as Gene Autry’s Back in the Saddle Again, Frankie Lane’s High Noon and Tumbling Tumbleweeds by The Sons of the Pioneers - all performed live on stage by cut to the chase...Company Cut to the Chase.
