In Loco Parentis - T0463345038In Loco Parentis combines movement, strong visual imagery and spoken word to investigate the cycles of childhood trauma, rupture and repair that shape the lives of care-experienced children and young people. In 2008 there were around 60,000 children in care, with that figure rising year on year. At the end of March 2018 there were 75,420 looked-after children in England, up 4% on the previous year. Despite interventions from the Cameron Government, which sought to speed up the adoption process and provide funds to offer therapeutic support to adopted children, the numbers of children being adopted continues to fall, and the shortage of foster carers remains unchanged. The result of a period of a six-month period of research and collaboration with care -experienced young people and the adults in their lives, In Loco Parentis unpacks some of the secrets and stigmas surrounding the care system in order to challenge, provoke and stimulate public debate.Author Wendy Houston. Virgin Territory - T01081198547With Vincent Dance Theatre's trademark black humour, Virgin Territory takes an uncompromising look at what it's like for young people to live in an over-stimulating, over-sexualised, digitally captured world. Four adults and four children negotiate some uncomfortable truths about the culture we live in, where bodies are exposed, identities faked and our deepest truths remain hidden. Unflinching in its honesty and hopeful in its intent, Virgin Territory is a heartbreaking, rallying cry from the ?astonishingly original' Vincent Dance Theatre (New York Times) to let our kids be kids.

Look At Me Now, Mummy - T1600635565Look At Me Now, Mummy is a comi-tragic one-woman show that paints an intimate, funny and moving portrait of a woman tangled in her own imagination and caught between the conflicting roles of performer and mother. Concerned with the choices a woman must make between making work or making babies, the production touches on themes of childlessness, motherhood and the use of a woman's imagination to lift her out of depression and domestic mundanity. Look At Me Now, Mummy can be translated as a lonely performer questioning her need for the show to go on, a childless woman inventing a game to pass the time, a woman who has lost a baby, a woman yearning for the possibility of having a child or a woman on the verge of giving up. The piece is performed by Charlotte Vincent's long-term Polish collaborator Aurora Lubos, who performed in the original production in 2008. Part of 21 Years/ 21 Works, a live and online collection of film and production work by artistic director and choreographer Charlotte Vincent, the project celebrates the 21 year anniversary of Vincent Dance Theatre.Director Charlotte Vincent. If We Go On - T01707982952Charlotte Vincent’s new piece, If We Go On is a series of individual acts that lay bare the mechanics of theatre and investigate the nature of language. Through miniature dances and stuttering songs, militant manifestos and extended exits, If We Go On embraces uncertainty with a dark, intelligent humour. An exceptional ensemble of multi-tasking performers and musicians morph words into movement, shunt gesture into sound and at times burst into song. In a relentless succession of splintered transactions, where words lose their strength, music strains to be heard and movement meanders into exhaustion and incoherence, If We Go On asks: if you had one last dance in you, what shape would it take?Director Charlotte Vincent. Drop Dead Gorgeous - T0941722315Suppose you stood facing a wall of photographs from your unlived life, in a country torn apart by war. What alliances would you make? Thrown together with strangers, in a place where everything is forbidden, and nothing is permanent, what action would you take? What would you find to believe in? Inspired by travels in Poland, where the tensions of European drama have been played out on the flesh and nerves of a large nation, and where notions of honour and courage are etched into the populations DNA. [Charlotte Vincent] has created a work which tries to understand our generation's experience of conflict persecution and brutality.Other John Avery (soundtrack). Director Charlotte Vincent.

Caravan of Lies - T01738821001Set in an old style circus and compered by a clown Caravan of Lies ricochets with backstage bickering and rapturous applause. Glittering costumes hang with shabby dressing gowns and clapped-out dreams. In this tale of spinning and soaring, three exquisite solos lead into a fearsome and breathtaking finale.Director Charlotte Vincent. Performer TC Howad. Performer Peter Shenton.
