It was in 1995, February 14th to be precise, that we formally launched UK Theatre Web (UKTW) after a few months of running a web/gopher service on our employer's main server (with their permission).
The initial experiment, to just list West End and Oxford, proved so succesful during late-94/early-95 that we took out a huge loan, bought a massively expensive (and completely underpowered) laptop, server, printer, scanner, ISDN line and hosting package and set up our first site - here's what we looked like when the WayBackMachine first saw us late in 1996.
We pre-date Google and pretty well all of the "big boys" of the web. We have survived bubbles and busts in the internet business world and are still here, plugging away at what we do best.
Our archive of listings and information grows daily and currently contains 125,558 works in 199,881 productions involving 204,270 people/companies giving 1,049,500 events in 3,356 venues. As "The Mousetrap" consists of one "event" in our terminology then you can see there is a lot of information - all searchable at the iUKTDb (internet UK theatre database!) linked from our site.
Still going strong!
