We missed this when it was in London but fortunately able to get into the sell-out production on Broadway with Jake Gyllenhaal and the truly fabulous Ruth Wilson, thanks to the snow storm that caused a lot of people to cancel their tickets. Way to go snow!
So glad we did see it. Running at around 95 minutes with no interval this beautifully constructed play looks at a single relationship through all the choices, decisions and mishaps thrown at it by life. But, as the female character is into physics and the possibilities of multiple parallel time streams we see the story as a series of fragments, stutters that change direction as different choices are made. Some subtle choices can have serious imapcts - and we see this here. Sounds odd? Well, its pretty easy to follow once you see what's happening. There is an underlying linear plot that is being bumped into new courses by small butterfly wing changes. This is not just an exercise in time though, the characters are real, credilble and sympathetic and you find yourself caring deeply as things turn bad, wondering what could have been as you see flashes of alternate futures.
Loved this play, loved the production and so glad to have seen it - look forward to the UK tour promised for later this year
