Sarah-Louise Young's tribute to Julie Andrews
By Orlando - 27th Nov 2013

Julie Madly Deeply ReviewNamed one of Time Out’s Top 10 Cabaret Acts and voted Best Musical Variety Act at the 2013 London Cabaret Awards, Sarah-Louise Young is the self-appointed number one fan of Dame Julie-Mary Poppins- Maria-Von-Trapp-Victor/Victoria-Andrews! This passionate and unapologetic homage to Sarah-Louise’s life-long love affair with the sugar coated star of Disney classics - who was castigated and, perhaps, sidelined after showing the breasts of Mary Poppins and Maria’s (apparently not owned by Julie Andrews in the 1981 film SOB) in a controversial film - is, in 90 whirlwhind minutes, a roller-coaster ride on a roller-coaster life!

Musical Director Michael Roulston keeps an eye on the wayward fan with a knowing glance, a supporting duet and a tongue-in-cheek nod to the ‘healthy’ interest Sarah-Louise has and shares with all who will listen (or locked in a room with her).

In her bag of crazy and instantly recognizable characters, that touched the life of Dame Julie, include BBC saccharine newsreaders, Liza (with a zee) Minnelli, Roger and Hammerstein, Val Parnell, Lerner Lowe, Rex Harrison, Richard Burton (who did not sleep with her!) Audrey Hepburn and Shrek! You would need to climb many mountains to engage with so many stars so wonderfully brought to life in one magical evening of musical mirth showing the sweet, dirty nature of stardom.

Whether feeding the birds, or flying a kite… if you love to laugh just stay awake after work and get yourself down to Trafalgar Studios to step in time with other Julie-fans. Join Sarah-Louise Young with Michael Roulston for a jolly evening; enjoying the life she leads - regaling you about the practically perfect nanny, the nun, the flower-seller, the wife, the mother… the star. See for yourself if she measures up. Beautifully told. Beautifully sung.

You may note I have resisted from writing Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. That would have been ridiculous!
