Virago means ?female warrior' in Latin and Vira is ?the brave one' in Hindi. A Virago is a woman of great stature, strength, and courage. The show explores the choices and decisions we must make as we go through life regardless of gender: there is no clear path to do the right thing, only options, and not all of them are easy.

This dance duet, inspired by Woody Allen's 1968 two-character play Death Knocks, is a collaboration between two world class dancers, Sonia Sabri (Kathak) and Ash Mukherjee (Bharathanatyam). We often think of these different genres as different ‘boxes’ for different ages and cultures, but what lies ‘outside the box’? A company of technically diverse dancers and musicians find out by exploring and collaborating through street, contemporary and Indian dance, beatbox, spoken word and tablavox rhythms. Kathakbox encourages us to ‘think outside the box’ and reflects the diverse, intersecting rhythms of the human experience. Sabri then returns to her classical Kathak roots, accompanied by a virtuoso live musical line-up of sitar, vocals and the world-renowned Ustad Sarvar Sabri on tabla.
