Romeo & Juliet is one of the world's most timeless stories, full of comedy, romance, poetry and strife. We are giving the star-crossed lovers a shake up by having women/non binary young people play the title roles. Our Verona is a town on the English seaside where Montagues and Capulets are having a turf war in the midst of roller-skating, ice cream runs and beach hut renovations. This summer, re-discover one of Shakespeare's classics like you've never seen - or heard! - it before, with the classic text and contemporary songs, created by the young company themselves.Adapted by Victoria Gartner. Sun & Moon Theatre are returning to Penlee with a vibrant, emotional, and bold production of Shakespeare's most popular drama of star-crossed lovers and warring families. The feud between the Montagues and Capulets has been reimagined as a rivalry between two family-run movie studios in the 1930s. Touted as the studio's latest ‘Golden Couple', Juliet, the current ‘Girl Next Door' has been matched up with matinee idol, Paris. Former child star, Romeo, is initially besotted by studio ‘It Girl' Rosaline, until he falls for Juliet at the Capulets' premiere after-party. Their lives controlled by this turbulent industry and period, Juliet and Romeo find joy, solace and excitement in their hasty romance, a desire for something true in an artificial world, and most of all, a hope for a better future. But comedy meets tragedy as fate has other ideas for them; behind the glitz and glamour of the film industry lies dark secrets and insecurities, and when their defiant union faces great opposition, it leads to violence, chaos, and despair. Suitable for all ages, join us on a summer's night for the world's most famous love story, featuring live music, fights, humour, and tears, as we explore the love and conflict between friends, families, and couples, that still rings true today.Company Sun & Moon Theatre.

This production of ‘Romeo and Juliet' is far darker than the usual romantic gaze. It may well be the grittiest production of this play you ever see. With grunge aesthetics and swarming soundscapes, Ruckus' vision focuses on the violent entanglement between the houses, particularly in its effect on the play's two lost youths. The action is explosive, the love, intimate. By reimagining the relationship as one of two young women, Ruckus dives head first into mental health, the loss of youth, and the psychic oppression of violent society. By embracing the violent potential of this play, we guarantee an engaging, and truly tragic, experience.Presented byRuckus Theatre Company.

Relocating Shakespeare's classic from fair Verona to 1880s Liverpool, Trisha Duffy's adaptation of Romeo & Juliet explores the destructive impact of religious sectarianism close to home. In this adaptation, two star-crossed lovers are caught between their feuding noble families, the Catholic Montagues and Protestant Capulets, resulting in tragic consequences. Passionate young love and the destructive impact of divided communities are prominent themes in this fresh adaptation of what is widely regarded as the greatest love story of all time.Producer Daniel Taylor Productions. Shakespeare Up Close - T01706075835

Summer 2016. London. A city of extremes. Where the whole neighbourhood has been divided by the lines of wealth. A world of street fights, catcalling and banter. A boy gatecrashes a fancy party and falls in love, for at least the second time that week. But this girl is different. She doesn't want to hear his lines and she's not interested in his moves. And he realises that she is the best and the worst thing that could ever have happened to him. They fall in love, and the world comes crashing down. Physical, fast paced and furious - this Romeo and Juliet combines dance, physical theatre and gymnastics into this brutal, beautiful tale of love and hate. Told in 90 minutes with an ensemble cast of 6, this is Shakespeare with speed. Bold directorial and design choices make it ideal for drama students who need to review live performances, as well as students studying the text in detail.Director Gemma Fairlie. Design Carla Goodman. Sound Max Perryment. Performer David Ahmad. Performer Lia Burge. Performer Maria Gray. Performer Tony Hasnath. Performer Tanya Lattul. Performer John Leader.

From Belo Horizonte. Perhaps the Americas most famous production of the most famous play ever, Grupo Galpao s carnivalesque Romeo and Juliet returns to Shakespeare s Globe with its thrilling mix of circus, music, dance and Brazilian folk culture. Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy of love, freedom and death, driven at the speed of the couple s youth. Galpao s famed circus skills are blended with the folk performance techniques of director, Gabriel Villela. The angst and pleasure, the driving force of love, the violence and passion concentrated in Shakespeare s text are conveyed on stage in conjunction with the breakneck speed of the story. As the drama unfolds, Daniel Kramer's production reveals elements of aerial acrobatics that combine with classical acting to create real poetry in motion. Classic scenes such as the infamous balcony tryst are given new life as Romeo woos Juliet from a trapeze and their famous love scene is played out on top of a circus silk. The costumes, designed by Givenchy's Andrew Heather, resonate with the power, shape, texture and opulence of this classic couture house. The River Styx Company brings together a cast of 25 artists from the UK and as far afield as the USA, Australia, Poland, Norway and France. In this production Logan Brown is Romeo and Gwendolyn Warnock is Juliet.Company River Styx Company. Director Daniel Kramer. Design Andrew Heather. Performer Logan Brown (Romeo).
